Another print for the Haunted New Orleans series I am making of haunted houses in New Orleans.
Marie Laveau was a renowned practitioner of Voodoo in New Orleans in the 19th century. She was born in 1801 in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, and lived most of her life in the city. Her exact birth date and parentage are not known for certain, as there are conflicting reports and little documentation from that time.
Marie Laveau was known for her powerful spiritual abilities, and many believed that she could heal the sick, provide guidance, and cast spells. She was highly respected and feared by both the black and white communities in New Orleans.
She was also known for her role in the social and political life of New Orleans. She was a prominent figure in the city's Creole community, and many politicians and businessmen sought her advice and support.
Marie Laveau was a devout Catholic and incorporated many elements of Catholicism into her Voodoo practice. She was also known for her efforts to help the poor and disadvantaged in New Orleans, including slaves and prisoners.
After her death in 1881, Marie Laveau became a legend in New Orleans, and her influence continued to be felt in the city's Voodoo culture. Today, many people still visit her grave in St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 and leave offerings and ask for her blessing. Her legacy as the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans lives on, and she is remembered as a powerful and influential figure in the history of the city.
I am fortunate to live near the locations of such rich history and enjoy taking photographs of the old buildings and preserving them in my photography, as well as create these prints. Thanks!
